Digitally enhanced photos can take on hundreds of forms including altering the tones, hue or saturation of all or parts of an image, removing unwanted detail and flaws, increasing detail in areas where that’s desired, and combining several photos to create a final image that appears to be a conventional photo.
Adding color to a black and white photograph isn’t a new thing. In fact, old photos from family albums have been colored by hand for a long time. Today, digital software makes the result much more realistic. Before color can be added to a photograph, it must be restored to get rid of any scratches or stains. After restoring the photograph, dozens upon dozens of color layers must be added. Sometimes it takes hours or even days or weeks to get the colors and the lighting just right. The fine details are crucial to properly colorized photographs. As a result, the subjects become as realistic as possible.
